PLACE VALUE ADDITION
When solving place value addtion, we use our knowledge of each numbers actual place value location and value to add up each column and create friendly numbers. For example when solving 36+48, I can first add 30+40=70, then solve 6+8=14. 70+14=84. Therefore 36+48=84.
OPEN NUMBER LINE
We can solve addtion equations simply by using our knowledge of place value, multiples of 10 or 100, sums of 10, and by creating friendly numbers, (numbers that are easy to work with). When solving for example 46+38, we can first solve 46+30=76 then add 76+4 in order to make a friendly number 80. We then only have 4 more to add which is 84. Therefore 46+38=84.
